TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT
The TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is one of the most commonly used joints, and dysfunction affects more than 30% of the adult population. Physio for TMJ disorders is an effective mode of treatment and there is an expansive range of treatment options.








Signs and symptoms of TMJ disorders:

Discomfort in the jaw (usually at its worst during the early morning and/or late afternoon)

Pain in and around the ear, and/or ringing in the ear (not caused by an inner ear infection), or persistent feeling that the ear is blocked

Headaches and/or dizziness
-
Facial pain and/or pain behind the eyes

Pain spreading from the jaw into the shoulder, neck and/or back
-
Difficulty with chewing, or pain whilst chewing
-
Lockjaw (locking of the joint which makes opening and closing one’s mouth difficult and limits the mouth’s range of motion)

A clicking or popping sound when opening or closing the mouth, or whilst chewing

A grating sensation when opening the mouth or whilst chewing

Tooth sensitivity (not caused by an infection or other oral disease)

Numbness or a tingling sensation in the fingers

An alteration in the way in which the upper teeth and lower teeth fit together (misalignment)
